Justine Harrington
Justine embarked on Travel Training a year ago aiming to be able to access her local shops independently. Justine is visually impaired and the walking route to the shops is approximately 15 minutes long and quite complicated. After several months of walking the route together I started shadowing Justine and although she became very frustrated if making a mistake she persevered and is now able to walk the route independently. Justine is currently using Travel Training to help learn her second journey accessing the bus from her home in Pitsea to Basildon Bus Station.
After a discussion about poetry I challenged Justine to write a poem themed 'travelling'.
Here is Justine's poem.
Basildon Bus Station
Basildon bus station
the right destination.
Always the place
for inspiration.
Waiting for a bus
on a cold, damp seat,
old and young people
stamping their feet.
The squeaking of prams
and kids whining for food,
while the parents are
hardly in the right mood.
Then on the bus people
joke around and chat,
at some idiotic thing -
what's so funny about that?
It goes on and on
It's driving me crazy,
The bloke behind me looks
like Patrick Swayze.
Finally the journey comes
To a halt,
and if you feel sick the
Drivers at fault.
The bus goes round the
corner and begins to fade,
people go round the shops
like a crazy parade.
So when you've reached here
you're at the right station,
apart from all this there's no
other explanation! |
